From what I understand, the towers at Marina City have an observation deck on the 61st floor that is open for residents of the apartment complex. However, these observation decks from what I heard were open to the public from when the building's opened in about 1963 until at least 1970. I also understand that the admission fee to the observation decks for the public was 50 cents in 1970. So, does anyone here know when the observation decks were closed to the public, because I assume that may have been between 1970 and 1974 due to competition from the higher observation decks at the Sears Tower and John Hancock Center. Also, does anyone here have any pictures of the Marina City observation deck and the view from there during the years that the deck was open to the public.

I didn't know it had one and have not found info about it.

All I know is the views are spectacular! I used to know a guy who lived and worked there, and at the time I was thinking of moving there. And he showed me one of the empty apartments right near the top.

And I loved the place, especially the views!

I toured a unit there and they led me to the rooftop. I've never been so scared of heights in my life and I love being high up in the air. The railings on the top of it are probably only 3 feet high, far below what any code would call for. The wind was also crazy that day so one little slip over and you're done for.

They didn't mention any observation deck.

The roof of the west tower had an observation deck open to the public from 1964 until 1970-1971.
