Blows my mind how this city went from common sense, hard on crime democrats like Daley and Rahm, to far left anti-business, pro-crime, pro-taxes progressives like Lightfoot and Johnson

Just a few more years and we are gone. The leftists can run the city into to the ground, I don't want to be here to for it though.

There's tons of empty units on the south and west side in beautiful buildings. Rehab them before you build new ones.

That works too. More units is better and we need to add more units to the market.

This new migrant crisis isn’t helping either. Turns out about $200 million out of the $538 million budget deficit can be attributed to the migrant situation. Looks like we’re in for more taxes. Wish progressives in the city would cut the virtue signaling and flat out say we’re not taking more migrants. We’re getting exactly what we voted for.

Stats don't lie. We all know Chicago's reputation is saved by the northside and downtown. If the south/west sides (2/3 of the city) was its own city, it would be #1 on every crime lists. Englewood and Austin are some of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the country.

Chicago has led the nation in homicides for 10+ years straight, despite only being the 3rd largest city. Why do NY/LA, which have triple/quadruple Chicago's population, have far less crime? Why do we put up with it and just brush it off?

Stats don't lie but people do. The study you linked is extremely disingenuous and misleading. It compares death rates among US military men in Afghanistan vs the entire Chicago population, while omitting all civilian and Afghanis deaths in Afghanistan. There were many times were the number of US troops in Afghanistan was around 7,000. Compare that to a city of almost 3 million. Absurd and dishonest comparison. Almost s bad as omitting approximately half a cities population when judging a city. Judging a city by its worst is as dishonest as judging it by its best.

SF also has room to grow, albeit far less than Chicago due to its geographical constraints.
The vacant lots are spots that were built out and now demolished. That's how little we need housing in Chicago that we can actually afford to raze entire blocks.

SF does not have room to grow. I worked there. There's no vacant lots there. In order to build more you'd have to destroy already built property or tap into public parks.

Why does Chicago not need new housing but our peer cities do? According to you...
