I just signed a lease for an old studio in Andersonville and am realizing I'll need A/C. Can anyone recommend places where I can find window A/C units (Used is okay)? My window is fairly large so I'll need something to cover up and insulate the gaps in between. Thanks in advance!!

Home Depot, Menards, Sears, Wal-Mart, Lowes, possibly Target, Best Buy. It's well into summer though, so there might not be much left. A hardware store will likely be your best bet, such items are core part of their business.

Target has some A/C units that are reasonable. Try the Target on Peterson. I would call first before you go to any store to make sure they are in stock.

air conditioner : Haier : Home : Target Search Results

Ask the landlord. It would not surprise me if they have something a previous tenant left, especially in an older smaller building.

If that proves fruitless then I would recommend getting some VERY accurate measurements and heading out to a Best Buy, Costco, Sam's Club or Sears in DuPage Co so that you won't waste your money supporting the idiots that run Cook Co.

The gas that would be required just to drive to DuPage and back for an A/C unit from Andersonville would take away any savings unless this person is going to spend a few hundred dollars on items.

An air conditioner is EXACTLY the kind of costly, carry it home yourself item that I fully would encourage making the trip out to DuPage to save the tax on!

If they wanted t head to Lake Co I'd be all over that too.

Just this evening I filled up with fuel in Lake Co. for $$4.07 a gallon, about 10% less than I saw it in Chicago, coupled with SAVING on the salestax it is definitely possible the trip would be "free" and the shopper would have the satisfaction of knowing they were NOT supporter the Toddler or any of his worthless "cousins" on the bloated BILLION DOLLAR payroll of Cook Co...

The cost is irrelevant, you should shop in DuPage just on principle. Cook County does NOT need and should NOT get that extra 1%!!!!!!!!

If you are buying a $100-$150 A/C unit only it is not worth it gas-wise to drive to Lake or DuPage county.

It ain't just 1%!

Right now if I were to buy something at the Sears on State St is would be 11%, the exact same item bought at the Sears in Vernon Hills or Oakbrook Center would have only 7.5% tax. Several portable A/C units are over $500. The saving would EASILY be greater than $20. Unless I'm driving a Winnebago I seriously doubt I would suck down more than five gallons of gas! There are SUVs that get better than mileage than that!

As prairestate puts it, the Toddler does not NEED and SHOULD NOT GET any taste of the screwy tax he put in by literally pitting Hispanic county commissioners against others.

This man has a studio apartment not a 3 bedroom apartment. Why would he be spending over $200 for an A/C unit?

The 3.5% savings on a $200 purchase is $7. I am sure it would cost around that or close to it to drive to Lake County and back from Andersonville.
