CHICAGO, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Chicago wants to put a giant Ferris wheel at its Navy Pier that is at least twice the size of the one there now, officials said.

Proponents say the Ferris wheel, to be developed privately, would rise at least 300 feet and bring in more tourists, the Chicago Tribune reported Saturday.

Well, it'd be appropriate. The very first Ferris wheel, which was, of course, built in Chicago, stood over 250' tall and had a capacity of nearly 2,200 riders. It was massive.

It's private money. Let's go there.

Besides, anyone who's been in Chicago for more than a week or two avoids Navy Pier anyway.

I've got a great idea. Why don't they put slot machines in the Ferris wheel cabins? Combine two great monstrosities into one.

As long as it's sticking out into the lake and interfering in my life as little as possible.

I'm not sure I understand your logic here. A ferris wheel is just an amusement attraction. Slot machines are, well, associated with gambling.

If they are going to build the ferris wheel in the place of the original, I don't see any problems with this. It's not like they are going to take up precious green space or something. And plus, Chicago is better off doing it's part to attract tourists, even if Chicagoans avoid the place like the plague.

First of all, I'm not being serious. But there is some logic. Many Chicagoans agree that both a casino and a gaudy ferris wheel are not really appropriate for the lakefront. They also agree that both would bring in prescious tourist dollars. Therefore, let's combine the two, minimizing the footprint of the two. As a side benefit, since real Chicagoans don't go to Navy Pier, putting the casino on a NP Ferris Wheel will keep the locals from lotsing their money on slots.

Much more fun and interesting. It might actually give me a reason to go to Navy Pier.

I don't see what's inappropriate about it. Considering the ferris wheel's origin in Chicago, I've always found it disappointing that the Navy Pier ferris wheel isn't bigger.
