Just joined and my 1st thread here!

My permanent home is living with my parents in Wicker Park, but since April 2007 I've been living in Houston for contract jobs - worked at Schlumberger and Jacobs Technology ESCG. Now I'm unemployed in Houston and I'm wondering if I should come back to Chicago yet! I visited Chicago July 4th week and it was a highway traffic nightmare! The 90/94 was so slow going outbound! When I go to work from Wicker Park to the suburbs, I take the 90/94 or 290 outbound - are these still very congested now going outbound in the morning? Are they under reconstruction? What other highways are under reconstruction?

If Chicago still has nasty highway reconstruction going on maybe I should take a contract job in another city!

well 94 is much better now most of the construction is wrapping up. Back in the summer I remember it would take me 1.5 hours to get out to the burbs and it didnt matter what time I left. That being said the traffic around here is always going to be pretty bad and is only going to get worse in time since we cant really add anymore lanes.

Yes. In the span of one year, expressway traffic has magically disappeared after being crap for 30 years.

I have lived in Chicago from 72 to 2006. Took a job in Bowling Green KY Fall Winter 2006 during the 90/94 Southbound construction - so glad I wasn't in Chicago. So glad I wasn't in Chicago April 2007 to now, too!

But I miss Chicago! Lake Shore Drive is such an awesome place to do a long distance bike workout! I miss some Chicago food, but other cities have better fast food than Chicago!

It just shifts around - now the Dan Ryan is good but the Edens is awful. If you can't get to a job in the 'burbs using Metra be prepared for traffic. Pretty much the same as most cities.

You cannot ride a bike on outer LSD.

Better fast food in term of what McDonalds?
I rarely get chain fast food in the city. Most of the time it does suck. But many of the places that have Hot Dogs,Italian Beefs,Gyros, etc are awesome.

Are you sure you are from Chicago?
I kinda am doubting it.

It has gotten a lot better, especially since they are almost done with 90/94 construction.

Yeah I workout in the LSD PARK bike path from Olive Park to Bryn Mawr [I think] - an exact 7 miles.

I don't know expressways by name, just number. What's the Edens?

I'll post another thread about how Chicago fast food selection - SUCKS! Really, I've been to other major cities in America and have seen lots of other good fast food places!
