I saw this scary story on Uptown Update today (apparently now serving as Edgewater Update as well). To all you Edgewater/Uptown residents out there, be careful! This one doesn't look good--but could still be an accidental death or suicide.

From what I read they are investigating it as a suicide or accident, which makes me think there is nothing to make them think it is foul play. But, I would not be surprised at all if that wasn't the case.

Regardless of the cause, that's so unfortunate. But as a "20 something female" by Clark and Granville, it's way too close for comfort. Wow.

Yeah i'm a little closer than you are and it wasn't what i wanted to hear when i got up this morning. mostly because i more than likely will have a crazy family member checking in on me.

it sounds like they're treating it as someone that jumped or fell on accident. i guess we just have to wait and see.

This one would not surprise me if it is a murder unfortunately. I hope I am wrong.

From what I read they are pretty sure it was a suicide and the girls mother believes so as well. She said she was very depressed and having a hard time finding a job. Her apartment wasn't broken into and her belongings seemed intact.

That's really sad.

That says so much about this country. There is no meaningful social safety net for the jobless. You can live fine in Germany or Sweden if you dont have a job, but you wont be able to survive in this country.

I don't find that argument compelling. Anyhow, both of those countries have a higher suicide rate than the U.S. Where I'm from (South America) no one can find a job and most S.A. countries are well below the U.S. in suicide rate.

There are plenty of people on the West Side and South Side as well as other areas of the Chicago area and many parts of the country that survive without ever holding a job. There are no shortage government programs out there to help people until they get on their feet. Some people go their entire lives without working and still have a roof over their head and food to eat.

Some even parlay the system enough to be able to have fancy new cars and a bit of "bling."
