Good morning.

As a lot of you know, the CTA used to run a "Culture Bus," described briefly here:
The Cta Culture Bus Is Back - Chicago Tribune

I know that it has been discontinued (quick research suggests that 1991 or so was the last year, then it was a victim of budget cuts). I am wondering if anyone happens to know of anything even sort of similar - transportation/shuttle routes that run between points of interest (besides the museum campus downtown). We have an out of town guest who loves to see things but is turning out to be less mobile than we and he thought (sciatica is really bothering him).

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Well, you can do a lot with a Daypass and a map. Even better, a smartphone so you'll know when the next bus is coming. The 146 links the Mag Mile, State Street, and the Museum Campus. The 29 links State Street with Navy Pier.

If you're just looking for a bus line with good sightseeing, you might choose a cross-section like the 22 Clark, 62 Archer, or the 81 Lawrence. Those show you the real character of Chicago, not just a series of lakefront landmarks. One circle trip I sometimes recommend is to take the Brown Line from the Loop to Damen and come back downtown on the 145 via Lake Shore Drive. Unfortunately, this now involves a walk of a couple blocks. Brown Line to Montrose, the 78 east to Clarendon, and then the 145 back downtown does it with almost no walking.

Thank you very much for these suggestions. We might try something like this tomorrow. Walking a few blocks shouldn't be a problem - we just can't do the longer walks that we'd been planning on.

Thanks again for taking the time to think about it and reply.
