i know they have supposedly been closed for like almost 40 years but the sign says mayor richard m daley the current mayor not his father and theres smoke coming out of there still and it smells bad and theres trucks coming in and out so what are they doing ui thought iit was closed

The trucks and smoke and from industrial parks. So far as I know there are no major livestock related facilities, so I think the smells are from the river or other general industrial things...

I went down there Easter Sunday as I was on my way down to look at some houses in the Pullman neighborhood.

There are approximately 50 wholesale meat places in that area including places like Allen Brothers and Chiappetti's. However, I saw no real livestock slaughter places at least near Halsted. In general, I would think that all they are doing is processing primal cuts.

There's a processing plant/retail storefront on Halsted and Lake? maybe. Just north of the elevated tracks, but it is far from the stock yards.
