I just found out I will be going to Northwestern Law this fall and need to find an apartment. I hope to move around August 1st, that gives me 2 months to find a place.

- I'm hoping to get something within walking distance of the Law School.
- I have a wife, so safety is a concern. A building with a doorman would be nice.
- A studio or 1 bedroom.
- Cost is somewhat of a concern, but I realize Streeterville isn't a cheap place to find an apartment. Is around 1k realistic? We could probably go more towards 1200 or so, but since I'm going to be taking on huge student loans I'd like to keep it to a minimum.
- We have a dog, it's a black lab so it should be fine in terms of breed restrictions. I'm not sure about weight though, I know many places have weight limits. The dog MUST go, this has been decided by the wife.
- Won't be taking our cars, so parking isn't a concern.

I visited the school a few months ago and stopped by 420 East Ohio and The Streeter. The Streeter was new and modern, had a lot of nice ammenaties, but you got less space for the same price. I've heard of other NU Law students living at 420 E Ohio. Any thoughts on these buildings?

I am most likely going to be getting the place site unseen, I don't have time to get back to Chicago before we move, so I'm hoping someone on here might be able to help me out!

Thanks.

I am pretty sure Northwestern has a housing office. As I recall they had some apartments that are at Pearson and DeWitt. Cannot beat the location.

Safety is not an issue in that section of Chicago. People treat their little "purse dogs" to the tiny space, but a lab IS going to be an issue.

Most of the rental buildings in Streeterville have a weight restriction of about 25 - 40lbs. In fact, there are only two that I know of that even accept dogs. Try widening your search to the Gold Coast. It's still close and would give you a (little bit of) a wider selection. You can also try going through an apartment finders service. They're free for the client and can help narrow down your options. Some may even use the MLS, where you can find a condo building that may be more flexible about the dog. Your price point for a one bed is a little low, especially for that time of year. Try looking at convertibles which will give you the extra space of a one bedroom, but without the price.

You and your wife might share a studio? Please try for a 1 bedroom because you may be doing some work late at night which would annoy your roommate.

There's a law school at Northwestern? You learn something new every day.
