CNN: Chicago police officer caught beating woman on tape; no jail time (crime)

EDIT: I did not see the other thread. I also want to add that I have a lot of respect for the people of Chicago after reading that thread. I expected them to be defensive and come up with weak excuses the way people of other cities become apologists for their city's criminals. Nope, the Chicago residents have stood up and called it like it is. It's too bad the Chicago police can't act more like it's residents. Kudos to the residents of Chicago for not playing the political game and calling it like it is.

A 250 lb drunk police officer is caught on tape punching and kicking a 115 lb female bartender. The police officer admits he is drunk but says he was doing it in self defense. The drunk officer tried to walk behind the bar stand and the young bartender warned him and then tried to push him away behind the bar counter. The cop equated that with being assaulted and thus be beat her in "self defense" He only got 2 years probation and no jail time. Talk about a corrupt judicial system. What was that judge thinking? The Chicago police department was exposed on ABC's 20/20 a year ago. This makes the LA PD look respectable by comparison.

My grandmother used to tell me about how things worked in Italy, and how they worked in NYC and then Chicago when they immigrated.

You paid your protection money monthly. The streets were safe to walk at night. Drug dealing was so privatized it never went to the streets. You didn't ever have to deal with police officers, certainly not in the "I was viciously assaulted and then strangled on tape by this police officer" sense. Crime was organized, efficient and it had its place-- everyone knew where not to go and what not to get involved with.

Most interesting to me, the mob never took a lot of money. It never extorted vast sums of money from outrageously unfair parking-related laws, fines, tolls, taxes or theft.

Frankly I'd be willing to try the old way again. I'll even pay for my block free, the first month.

I don't know what be worse-beating a stranger or someone you know.The sentence seems to be the standard for those kind of offenders.I think he should have been taught a lesson with some jail time.The judge is crazy in his reasoning mainly.He states sending him to jail would not prevent the crime from happening elsewhere.Hello-that doesn't mean he get's a free pass.If that's the case,why send someone to jail for murder.It's not like it's going to prevent it from happening elsewhere either.The only jail time is the initial arrest and depending on if they post bail.It's sad to say,but if only one of his blows would have been a death blow,would he maybe be doing time now.
