Yeah..and...so... whats your point? The rule of thumb in the media is "if it bleeds- it leads" and this kind of violence means it was repeated incessantly in every newscast on every station. Simply reposting the headline means nothing without some sort of commentary.

There was also a recent drug bust of 5M dollars & a boatload of heroin - product that never made it to the urban marketplace but lends insight to the reasons why the urbane are so trigger happy. I believe 40% of the violence is do to petty nonsense, arguments, trivial discord etc and the other 60% is drug related.

Can't we just combine these into one thread? It's kinda bizzare to have a thread EVERY SINGLE DAY about crime stats.

Historically, shootings of this (almost weekly) magnitude are uncharacteristic and recent developments in chicago. Guess, we'll have to wait on the media to entlighten us, when they get the green light from whomever. The entire scenario in chicago, has begun to resemble the years past, "Rev Fry" / blackstone rangers" situation and the destruction of Woodlawn. By the time the smoke, bodies, (and graffitti) overwhelmed the area, it was too late. What? About three square miles of vacant lots?

^? I've been here for 9 years, and I can't remember a single summer where this wasn't completely normal. The only thing unusual about this year is they're giving a lot more attention to it in the press than they have historically.

Remember that in the 1990's the city saw around 94,000 violent crimes at its peak. This year through the first half of the year we're at around 12,000 to 14,000. Violent crimes are down over 10% from last year, and have been going down every single year since 1992 except for 2007 I believe.

only 13? That's disappointing. I was hoping to beat the record of 59 from a few weeks ago.

Is it just Chicago, or do other cities get this much fixation on their crime rate? There are plenty of other places that are just as violent, but it seems like Chicago has a special place in the heart of crime voyeurs. It's bordering on obsession for some people.
