What would you say overall is a better area north of Chicago... East of Damen or West of Damen? East of Damen is walkable to the blue line, west isn't, but you can still take the Chicago bus to the Chicago/Milwaukee blue line stop.

If you were to rent comparable apts in this area, which side of Damen would you want to be on?

Would you rather live in a $900/month 1 br east of Damen or a $1400/month 2 br west of Damen?

That's hard to answer since they just seem so close to each other and similar. At least to me.

I usually place being as close to possible to an El stop highest on my list, just ahead of grocery store.

I'm on the west of damen side now which is a departure from my "close as possible" rule but Bustracker makes things a lot easier for me now.

Speaking of which. Anyone notice some buses must have bad units and are off the radar. Other times the map freezes and when it unfreezes the bus has blown by you. But mostly I love it.

There's nothing particular about Damen Avenue that makes one side notably different from the other. So I'd go with east of Damen just for the better Blue Line access. Taking the Chicago Avenue bus can be a frustrating experience.

I'm not sure either is really walkable to the blue line on a daily basis, if you're only a block or two north of Chicago. Maybe if you're closer to Division. But as the others said, there isn't a big difference between the areas so I'd just go with the best unit for the price.
