Anyone have any inside info on why the Lester Witte and Company CPA firm on Wacker Drive in Chicago failed? Were they doing a bunch of sloppy audits?

Is this a recent happening or ancient history? I've never even heard of them and they're not on the Crain's list. Is it possible they were sucked up by one of the national (non-Big 4) firms?

Lester Witte and Company was founded back in the 20s and was a national accounting firm into the 80s and possibly 90s. Last I remember they were on Wacker Drive.
It was reportedly 'one of the largest accounting firm failures in US History.'

Jenner & Block LLP: A National Law Firm - RONALD R. PETERSON

One easy way of finding out what happened is to go the website of the US Bankruptcy Court of Northern Illinois.

U.S. Bankruptcy Court

Download PACER, the on-line access to the bankruptcy court's ruling and look for the initial voluntary or involuntary petition which will give you all the necessary information.

Do realize that there is an $0.08 per page charge for this.

I care because I once worked there.

I was going to ask if you were sure about the Witte part of the name; but it seems like you should be if you worked there. I am a former database coordinator at ICPAS and the only Lester I can think of is McKnight. It's been a long time so maybe the brain has just forgotten.

I start work for another of the Big4 tomorrow; I'll bet I can get it through Lexis/Nexis.
