I'm kinda surprised no one has mentioned this before.

If you're like me and you like to obtain bargains as much as Cutler throws interceptions, check out Groupon!

http://www.groupon.com/chicago/

It's a collective buying power. Basically, The Point offers Chicagoans a daily deal at a terrific discount. If a certain number of people sign up for the deal, everyone gets the discount. You have to get the deal offered the day it is offered as it will expire at midnight. Most of the discounts range from 30 - 70% off.

Some deals I've capitalized on:
Chicago History Musuem Family Membership, tickets to see Faust at the Lyric Opera House, a deep discount at 1154 Lill, and a couple of Cubs Rooftop tickets.

You can check out more recent deals here:

Has anyone else gotten great deals? Share....

I signed up a few weeks ago but it seems like most of the offering are geared to tourists. I live here so I don't really need discounted ghost tours, boat tours and hotel stays.

I don't know that I have the patience to check it daily for the one usable coupon out of 20 meh ones.

Got a great one in September for The Green Door Tavern -- a $25 Groupon for $10. Not bad. And the nachos there are delicious!

Keep a lookout for the side deals. The other day, they were boasting 100-level Bulls tickets for $79.

I got a couple of groupons for $20 for $50 worth of food at Kamehachi. $40 paid for $100 of food, not too bad. And they email you the deals, so there is no weeding through them, if you don't want it, hit the delete button.

I have seen some decent deals on Groupon but the deals I have seen in OTHER cities have been a lot better than those in Chicago. Too many of teh Chicago ones have been spas, nail, and hair places. Nothing I am interested in.

And the event "deals" have not been as good as those on Goldstarevents or Hottix.

If I lived in the city proper, maybe I would have tried out some of the deals,

I just read a recent discussion on another forum that said that Groupon declined an advert for a tanning salon in Tampa, so obviously the Groupon members are getting a bit fed up with all the beauty deals going around!

TechCrunch.com have just done a great article on how much they reckon groupon makes per deal...with a 50/50 split they estimate it's a staggering $40,000 per deal!

No wonder there are development companies like agriya.com racing to create a groupon clone script as people realize just how much money there is in this simple idea!
