...But I'm going on a trip with 5 of my best friends from Thursday to Sunday.

So... Any recommendations on anything to do that wasn't there 4 years ago? Recommendations for the best restaurants? I'll probably be spending some time visiting family in Oak Park and Schaumburg as well if you have any recommendations there

Thanks!

Do you really want the "best" restaurants, or the best restaurants in your price range? Some of the best restaurants in Chicago will run you over $100-200 per person for dinner, with Alinea over $500.

Give us an idea of your interests, where you're staying downtown, and what your price range is.

That is a bit high, I was at Alinea with a client about 6 months ago, and we did the tasting menue with a bottle of wine, and with tip, we didn't approach $500

What's changed downtown in the last four years? Some cool businesses have been replaced with generic "Irish Bars" and some condo towers have gone up. That's about it.

The Art Institute has opened a new Modern Wing that is great.

A few years ago The Gage opened on Michigan Ave, they have a great beer selection and menu. They also did a great job renovating the space to match the exterior of the building (by Holabird & Roche).

The Tiffany dome at the Cultural Center has been restored (Not sure exactly when it was finished, that may have been finishing up 4 years ago). If you've never seen it, it is definitely worth checking out.

I'm sure there's a lot more I'm forgetting, but those are the first things that come to mind for downtown.

I'm not a big museum guy, the way I see it, once you've seen Wikipedia and pursued a bachelors degree in a social science, most of it is review.

As for food, I love Mexican, German, and Thai food, and any kind of good curry, I'm not willing to go more than 20 bucks per person/meal, really, unless it's REALLY that good. I'd consider going that high for some REAL Spatzle. Here in KY we have **** for German restaurants.

I'm big on soccer, auto sports, hockey, shopping, sightseeing, the general things, but try to avoid tourist traps. 2 members of our party are under 21 so we likely won't be seeing much bar time.

Yeah, last time I visited there was nothing but cheap, fake Tex-Mex.

I couldn't find chicharron within 10 blocks of our hotel.
