Hello, I just thought I'd ask for your opinion on the following issue. Please feel free to tell me what you think of it.
Let's suppose there is a man who is a church-goer and receives holy communion each time he takes part in church services. One day he commits a sin or two (serious sins but not mortal ones) and when he goes to church (as a sinful man) he does not take communion as it would be a sacrilege according to the Catholic church.
A year or so goes by and he still goes to church weekly but does not take communion because he has not gone to the confessional box / reconciliation room and has not been absolved by a priest/vicar since he sinned.
Now my question is : one day the man decides to go to his inner room (alone) and repents of his sins (all his sins) there and truly asks Jesus to forgive him and erase his sins, Can he take communion the next time when he goes to Chruch? (without being absolved by the priest himself?)
I do know that it is the Lord Jesus Christ who forgives our sins and not a minister but what did Jesus mean when he told his apostles:
"if you keep someone's sins, their sins will be kept - if you absolve them of their sins - their sins will be forgiven." (Not word for word - but that's what he meant."
Second, if the man decides to take communion cuz he feels Jesus has forgiven his sins, Is it all right if the priest says, "hm you haven't taken communion for a long time in this church, and now you just start to line up and take it again.. I don't remember I've absolved you of your sins in the confessional box since you stopped taking communion. thanks for any response....
According to the RCC no he probably shouldn't take it (didn't you say there were no mortal sins? It might be ok then, I'll have to check). However, I don't think the priest will stop him., I've never heard of that happening.
And since you don't have to go face-to-face during confession there is no way he'd even kno if you'd been in awhile. Or you could've confessed at a different church, or in front of a different priest, etc...etc...

well, if the answer is no, he shouldn't take it, does it mean that all your sins are completely forgiven only if you're absolved by a priest as well.?
if that is the case, Is eucharist necesarry for salvation?"
Hmmmmmmm........ well, if he really had an aversion to entering a confessional he could attend an Episcopal service. Absolution is part of the service before communion is offered. I'm just saying.......

If you walk up during communion, the priest will offer Jesus up. He does not know if you had confessed your sins at another church and he's not going to ask you if you did.

I was thinking the same thing. There is corporate confession at the start of Mass in Lutheran churches or a person can go to private confession but absolution if declared in both instances. I think public confession is also part of the Mass in Roman Catholic churches.

Yes, it is.
