We hear this song sung each Christmas time:

Angels we have heard on high,
sweetly singing o-er the plains.

But is this biblically accurate?

If we go to Luke 2:13 we find that the angels were praising God in front of the shepherds.

Should the song not be:

Angels we have heard on high,
Praising God o'er the plains.

Angels dropped from the star of Bethlehem: didn't they? And the Ideal existence of the Soul came to singular fruition for all time.

Not in any Bible I ever read.

That might be Platonism but not found in the Bible.

It's a Christmas song.

Technically...I don't know that there were any drummer boys present either.

WHO CARES? It's a song! And your version would eff up the rhythm because it's short a syllable.

It's a long, for crying out loud. Ever heard of literary license? There are inaccuracies of this sort in pretty much every Christmas carol we sing.

Actually my version works. If you sing it: "Praising Go-od o'er the plains" it works perfectly.

That's superfluous, "Gloria in excelsis deo" which also is found in the hymn, means "Glory to God in the highest". "Sweetly singing o'er the plain" is parsimonious with its word choices.
