I'm Jewish so I'm doing the forbidden. I replace all "the Lord", " LORD", "Lord" with "YHWH" in order to understand the Bible. My keyword search count is 6007 of them using Hebrew.
It makes a huge difference to me. I wonder if any Christians have tried that and if it makes a difference to them.
For me, in my imagination and personal lifetime experience, YHWH means Common Sense, but more emotionally, in Hebrew HaSekhel HaYashar. I take into account the whole geography, culture & civilization of the authors of the books of the Bible myself. I'm an actress living as those people did. Certainly we have enough resources to do just that.

I also use Josephus's description of his world: Antony, Cleopatra, Arab and Jew. That's Israel 70CE in the Market Place.

These folks heard the Bible I suspect so they never saw "YHWH". I don't know how many actually ever saw a Bible. I suspect it was all memory. Similar to my Orthodox- education 7-12YO based on the Siddur instead of the Bible. Only boys were allowed to "peek" at the Bible.

Religion is popular history as far as I'm concerned. The Bible is a miracle book to have survived for so long, before there were copyrights. And in such literal condition, based on the miracle discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Without the Bible would we all be Jews or Christians or Muslims or Atheists?

I would say it this way: Without YHWH would we all be Jews or Christians or Muslims or Atheists? It's no accident that YHWH was introduced on the Day of Rest in that beautiful song Gen:1-2:4.
