It's common knowledge that Jesus was the ultimate champion of the poor and sick. The roots of Christianity are based on helping your fellow man yet there are so many Christians in this country that are against social programs to help the poor. I myself have always felt this is a political thing as we have a two party system that people are basically forced to choose between. One party that promotes christian values on social issues like abortion, gay marriage and assisted suicide while the other party promotes Christian values such as promoting food and medical programs for the needy, Housing for the poor and regulations to protect the people and the environment. Doesn't it seem like all true Christians should support all of these things yet so many Christians these days get caught up into politics and turn their backs on their own faith for political reasons. You have masses of Christians that support abortion on one hand and masses of Christians that don't support social programs for the poor and needy on the other hand. One half has been brain washed to think that abortion is moral while the other half seems to think that helping the poor can be handled by just charity

what are your thoughts on this?

When one becomes a Christian, he is still one person, he doesn't become a clone or joined at the hip to all other Christians. In the very basic concept, Christians are people who follow the teachings of Jesus, not necessarily the teachings of added by man. By his example, Jesus taught love, compassion , charity , etc..Man added all the hate and bigotry to His gospel.

My political views are not based on my beliefs about God.. My political views are based on the people I think are qualified to keep this nation free so that we can all come to CD and debate/discuss our differences.

I support the social programs of our government and those in the private sector because of my compassion for the unfortunate people in our society..

I support abortion in the very beginning of conception for rape and incest and life of the mother. I support gay rights(including marriage benefits) because they are as much citizens as I am and pay their taxes same as I do.

I am neither Democrat, Republican and I vote independently according to all the above,

There are some issues that I do not support (according to my convictions) but there are some that I do support. This is why I do not get myself involve in politics, and faith and Politics should never be mix. My political views are based on my beliefs about God, so it would be the opposite from Miss Blue. However, it does require a lot of wisdom when it comes to these two topics.

I am 100% in favor of every social program in America that is not run by any government entity. All the government does is make it less efficient, wasteful and uses the money for their political gain rather than helping all in need. Fraud is allowed as long as that fraud results in votes for the party in power.

I 100% agree with this. Can't say it any better. I would just add that in Socialistic countries, freedom is slowly eroded. You can see it happening in Europe today. The State begins to dictate more and more of how people can and can't live as they gain more power through taxation.

Religious freedom is a big deal to me, as it was to my ancestors who fled their Native lands to come to America. It amazes me that liberal Christians don't seem to recognize that in the name of "compassion" they are feeding this monster called "big government", which will continue to encroach on personal/religious freedom. It happens in small ways now...it's gradual so that the frogs in the kettle won't notice. The more power you give a government, the more corrupt and totalitarian it becomes. People are just not students of history, apparently.

Also just wanted to add that I DO believe that charity is the responsibility of the Church, the Family and the local community. Maybe if the government got out of this area it has no business in, the responsible parties would feel pressed into action. I think people have gotten lazy and comfortable with letting the government handle issues of human need. Big, big mistake.

As long as we are a democracy, the majority gf the people will have the real power and the people are backed by the Constitution. I pray that none of you are ever in a situation where you don't know where the next meal is coming from for your children, or that you are so ill yet can't afford to see a doctor. Or are caught up in a Natural disaster and suddenly find yourself homeless.

We do not have a democracy in the US. Never have. It was not set up that way. We have a Representative form of government. In a democracy everyone get's to vote on everything. Here we vote for a person and hope they will conduct things the way we want them to.

I was impressed when the Tornado came across Alabama a few years ago that FEMA ended up going door to door begging people to take what they had because the local charities had taken care of most every need before they showed up.

If that were the case you might as well just be against social programs since prior to the governments intervention weren't any effective social programs. The church has never adequately fulfilled its obligations to the poor.
