another thread about the possibilities of having a theocracy form of government started me thinking along some other lines.
Suppose we did.....would we see more or less of cases like the removal of the feeding tube in the Schiavo case? Remember that this went to the Supreme Court before the issue was settled.
Suppose we did.....would people be kept alive at all costs?
Suppose we did.....would children be exposed to the basic imformation about evolution and the development of the species?
Suppose we did.....could children be taken away from abusive parents, or would the rights of the parent be the deciding factor?
Suppose we did.....would women once again revert to being considered property of the husband? With no right against abuse?
And above all......would sex without procreation be against the law? Would birth control once again be illegal?
Jesus said "My kingdom is not of this world." His kingdom is in our hearts. The powers that be are ordained of God, for He is a God of order.. and I'm thankful that in the past many laws were morally based. However, IMO it would not work to "enforce" Christian ideas, (like some you mentioned) because it is a heart matter, not a form. So... some leaders today may believe in Christianity, and base some of their decisions on the Bible, and we can be thankful for that because it helps preserve the nation, but I can't see a theocracy as something that God would desire, or a church that is in control of government. The "world system" and the Christian "world system" are two different things...
...but I can't see a theocracy as something that God would desire, or a church that is in control of government.
God wouldn't desire a theocracy, but you can bet there are plenty of Fundamentalists who would. Namely those who believe in dominon theology, sometimes also called Christian Reconstructionism. These folks do hold with the notion that a society that should be entirely governed by God's laws, as read in the Bible. Though they are a relative minority within Christianity, it behooves both mainstream Christians and non-Christians to always keep a weather eye out for such extremism, lest it gain too much of a toehold in our society. Exteme fundamentalism of any kind, religious, political, etc., should always be suspect.
the problem with a theocracy is that people are people..and sadly..some would be "persuaded" IMHO..as seen in history...to "exclude" others...and some in the past..were excommunicated from the church..therefore becoming a heretic..and as my history professor love to say.."and you know what they do to heretics..they burn them"..
Id say Im a moderate fundie..Im def not for a theocracy...
And what would become of us Atheists? Would we be stoned to death, as the old testament prescribes?
Nope, Blue will make sure they follow the new covenant and love you
