He his wife and two children converted to the Christian faith. They had to flee Iran. Presbyterian Churches U.S.A. apparently are supporting him and appointed him to our church. He calls himself an evangelist. It was very touching when he baptised a young Iranian college student into the church this Easter and he gave the baptism in Iranian.
Last Sunday he gave the sermon, which was titled, 'Building Bridges'. The church should be spending it's money building bridges to other religions rather then building towers. (Our church is planning a new building, which I'm supposing he thinks the money should be going elsewhere.) Also, he was displeased that a lot of churches change their Bibles to conform to political correctness of the times, referring I suppose to the gay/lesbian issues today. The problem is, these issues are never spoken about by our regular minister, who is usually non-judgmental and could touch a soft spot with the congregation, which is somewhat disquieting. Hope he stays as we need somebody in the church to shake things up.

Sounds like an interesting guy, and an interesting life story. I'm curious what you mean by the above statement. What would that look like?

What he is saying is, 'We should be spending church funds on trying to reach the unbelieving rather then to spend money on ourselves with a new church, which we already have'.

Gotcha. That works. I initially understood that to mean that you thought we should be making friendly with other religions and NOT trying to evangelize.

you might have a good minister in your church. hopefully he does not become to like american preachers and only concern himself with how fast the church can grow. Hopefully he shakes things up in your church. American needs preachers who are not politically correct at all.

Not all of us are concerned only with numbers. Many of us recognize that spiritual growth among the people we have already is important, too.
Having said that, keep in mind that a lot of pastors are under tremendous pressure by their Board of Elders to grow the church. Many churches tell their pastor that if the church doesn't grow, he isn't doing his job.

You state that as if it's a bad thing to do.
