Gen 4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

Gen 4:9 ¶ And the LORD said unto Cain, Where [is] Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: [Am] I my brother's keeper?

Gen 4:10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.

Gen 4:11 And now [art] thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;

Gen 4:12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

Gen 4:13 And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment [is] greater than I can bear.

What does it me to be thy brother's keeper? Can you explain it in the context of the passage and the larger meaning univerally?

Well, what it means to me is that a "keeper" watches over something, pays careful attention to it, takes care of it, protects, tends to. Adam's job initially was to be the keeper of the garden. Cain asked if it was his responsibility to watch over his brother, take care of his brother, be attentive to his brother, even protect his brother perhaps and evidently it was because the Lord punished him for what he did. Instead of caring for his brother, he slew him. Universally to me it means that we are to care for one another, look out for one another, take care of one another and this goes along with the instructions given to the church, the body. We are members one of another and we should be concerned for one another. In a broader context, we should also care for and be concerned with all men as we have been taught to even love our enemies. God bless

you have some obligation to care for the welfare and whereabouts of your brother. in this case you killed him, not a good answer to the question where is he.

If you mean with Am I my brother's keeper if I'm responsible for the actions of my brother?
Nope, everyone is solely responsible for their own actions.

Um, yeah, like ShanaBrown said, you're not your brother's keeper unless you murdered him in cold blood. In which case, yeah, you could possibly bare a smidgen of responsibly.

But killing my brother would be my action, therefore my responsibility and not my brother's.
Even when I try to put the blame on my brother because he went out of his way to make me jealous, it still is my responsibility. Therefore only I can be guilty for my actions.
