not to believe in Jesus Christ?
Think about this very carefully before you launch into an answer. We know the RESULT of not believing in Jesus will be rejection of God's free gift of salvation that leaves only the sinner himself/herself to try to pay the penalty for those sins. But is the act of unbelief itself a sin?

no it is simply unbelief until one decides to confess with his mouth the lord jesus and believes in his heart that god raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9. we live in the grace admin. and freedom of will is still reconised by god. its still unbelief which could change at any time no sin involved.

Anything that is not of faith is sin and we are saved by grace through faith. We sin because we are sinners. We don't become sinners because we sin. Now if you hear the good news of Jesus and choose to reject Him for the rest of your life, you are sinning willfully. (Hebrews 10:26) Rejecting Jesus Christ as the once and for all sacrifice is the only sin that cannot be cleansed by His blood because there is no blood in your life of unbelief.
Is the act of rejecting Christ a sin? ... The 'wages of sin are death' (eternal). Likewise, the 'wages' (consequences) of not trusting/believing in Christ ... is continued death/lifelessness/ condemnation. Since the results are the same, I'm not sure that the 'label' matters (?)
John 3:18-20 -- 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
It's not clear what the 'end game' addressed by your question may be.

"We" know nothing of the sort.
You, and others of your ilk may think you do. I understand. It's like a comforting blankie for your psyche.
And no, unbelief - especially in the biblical god - is certainly not a sin.

Every Christian knows that salvation requires a belief in Jesus. Only satan and his followers would reject that simple fact. While to not believe in Jesus may not be a sin within itself, it is the act (or non-act) that results in eternal separation from God/Jesus.
John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
It seems that rather than being a sin itself, believing in Jesus Christ is the vehicle to having our sins forgiven. Belief in Jesus is the gospel. It's not the sin of unbelief that separates one from God but it is belief that allows use to enter His presence.
What is "sin"? Is it anything other than non-love?
How is it not loving to NOT believe something that you honestly do not believe?
Reason#5,672 as to why "believe or ELSE" is so FAR from the actual GOSPEL.
Numbers 5:6 - "Speak to the sons of Israel, `When a man or woman commits any of the sins of mankind, acting unfaithfully against the LORD, and that person is guilty,
Yes all unbelief is a sin , as it give rise to the spirit of reason and lies which is sin , as reason reject faith in Lord Jesus and His promises which come through the authority of antichrist , .........Like people who will not believe and pass from this world will die in their sin , as unbelief is the cause of the sin ......... See there are two roots of sin that is all sin has a root of pride or unbelief .....See God is a majesty King of all the heaven and the earth , and his Words must be believed in , or it is rebellion and therefore sin .... Where when people start to believe then repent and forsake unbelief and all sin then Jesus sees the proof and forgives the convert ............See some in these day of apostasy in the world , there will be some who devalue sin and will reason out the importance of sin to God , but God does not change not yesterday , today , and tomorrow ....
