Not sure if it is a mandate from god, but it is a great idea just because it is the right thing to do..

I never killed an indian, I never owned a slave. My great x3 granddaddy never owned a slave, even though he could have. What do these 'churches' involved with this movement have to say about the black plantation/ slave owners from those days gone by?

Racism is hardly limited to just whites and Americans. It's a human issue, affecting all peoples in all lands. By singling out white Americans, it's not going to the root of this widespread problem.

Hopefully these churches will simplify the discussion, and focus on several key verses concerning racism and hate. Blasting those verses into the consciousness of the churches would keep matters on track. The other side of it would be continuously comparing actions and words to those verses, and calling out those in violation. I doubt they'll take that approach though.
