So shooting them out of a canon makes sure they get into heaven?

I know the liberal press makes each Pope seem to be ready to change Christ's teachings to be an all things go but it will never happen. I hope no one is holding their breath that Pope Francis will be any different that the Pope before him. No Pope can or will change Christ's teachings on dogma. They can't even if they wanted to. The truth never changes.
It is NOT Christ's teachings that need to change . . . it is the RCC's benighted and blinkered interpretations. They have no clue what Christ was really about nor what God is like. Jesus would be a Hippie if He had been born in today's world . . . definitely NOT a Catholic.

But, the church that prevailed after Jesus departed is Catholic.

As long as you think an institution was created by Jesus . . . you completely miss the point of His Gospel message of love and reconciliation. He created NO institution and certainly no hierarchy . . . which He specifically disavowed! His ecclesia is composed of those who follow His instructions to "love God and each other" daily and repent when you don't. We each are now the Temple within which the kingdom of God is found because Christ abides with us under the New Covenant. His Holy Spirit (Comforter) is within our consciousness to guide us to the truth God has "written in our hearts." We do not need anyone to teach us and we do not need any institutions to make rules for us. If we follow the rule of agape love we cannot sin (or "miss the mark"). I feel sorry for those who ignore the Comforter and what is in their hearts for the "precepts and doctrines of men." It is difficult to feel God inside when you are focused on nonsense outside. "Be quiet and know that I am God."

I agree with you, but historically the Catholic CHurch is the most influential institution in Western Civilization. Without the Catholic CHurch you would have an entirely different culture. You would be saying something completely different if not for the church.

I'll tell you this much......If you think the Catholic Church is so wrong in it's teachings, then all of Christianity is a farce to you. Even though there are differences in the Catholic and Protestant theology, they are all based on the same principles of Christianity.

It is man who searches out the differences and tried to widen the gap. I believe ALL Christians who accept JC as their savior and reedemer will be saved. Unlike some of you who point out man made differences in worship and tradition. God isn't that petty and can see the true heart of man. He doesn't care about the HOW. He just wants you to follow Him.
