Need help from Christians (Gospels, church, preaching, agnostic)

I am a lapsed Catholic and have been an agnostic for many years now. One of the primary reasons I fired the Church back in my 20s was that, aside from it being one of the most oppressive and corrupts institutions on the planet, there were just simply too many lies from Jesus in the Gospels.
How could I pray to a liar?
How do you guys cope with the fact that he promised many many things that simply do not come true?
Oh..you can prove me wrong by having him move that mountain right now.
And...if you answer that his promises are simply figures of speech, or allegorical, then whose to say ALL of his preachings are not literal? Thus, what is the point of worshipping him?
