For those of you who attend churches that follow the liturgical calendar, is your church doing anything specific during Advent?
We are having a class every Sunday between our two services given by a member of the church who is a retired priest. The subject is "Subversive stories from the OT." The first class, however, was about the importance of parables and paradoxes in the Bible and how the indirect route of teaching is often more effective that saying something straightout. LOL, to demonstrate the effectiveness of indirectness, the priest provided us with a map and a short history of Lee's victory at Chancellorsville. He seemed to be going off on a weird tangent and some people looked confused, but I enjoyed it.
Next week is the first "subversive story", which will be the book of Ruth.
