They broke the law.
Plain and Simple

Second issue is that how Christians demonstrate "Hate the sin, but love the sinner"?

I don't doubt for a moment that the most vocal among the Fundamentalists will oversimplify this controversy.

But the indisputable fact remains that in most of the cases which have drawn attention over this issue, it is the militant fringe of the LGBT community who chose to pick a fight, then went whining to authority like a second-grader on a playground.

The law is the law, but the motivation is spite -- pure and simple; and the size of the penalty just might be due to the attitude of some sympatheitic "hater" (Maybe we among the "non-progressive" could use that word occasionally) shielded within the bureaucracy.

The "response" below

seems reminiscent of a Nazi officer claiming he was "only obeying orders"

The simple fact is that there is and has been good reason for the law. They broke the law for the reasons that the law was made and publicity about the law and the reasons for it is absolutely appropriate. I feel sorry for this couple for being dupes of the Franklin Grahams of the political "Christianity." That they follow the demagogues rather than the spirit of concern for the well being of everyone is their own failing.

That was not a fine.

Quote:
In a press release, the bureau said that an administrative law judge had awarded $60,000 in damages to Laurel Bowman-Cryer and $75,000 in damages to Rachel Bowman-Cryer for “emotional suffering stemming directly from unlawful discrimination.”

“The amounts are damages related to the harm suffered by the Complainants, not fines or civil penalties which are punitive in nature,” said the release, adding that the proposed fines are “less than what was sought by administrative prosecutors,” who had sought the full $150,000.

Franklin Graham is paid over $400,000 a year for running that charity. If he's worried about the bakery owners..... he can donate part of that income and make $300,000 a year.

This can drag on for years with appeals, negotiations etc.
It is almost certain the final judgement will be considerably less.

The indisputable fact is the LGBT community is tired of being treated as second class citizens.

The LGBT community is tired of not having the same rights you have, but according to law, have the same responsibilities you have.

The LGBT community is tired of being bullied by you on the playground pure and simple.

Just make the cake.
