I know this has been a hot-topic of debate on the Christianity board. Thoughts? And regardless of your opinion, please try to keep it civil. It really is possible to share your opinion and not attack others who disagree!
This court really doesn't care about the Constitution anymore. It's more about perceived public opinion. They demonstrated that with some recent rulings on Obamacare. Rather than rock the boat and create consequences for bad law, they would rather not actually give meaning to words. This ruling today is just more of the same.
Do we vote on anything anymore, or do we just let the guys in black robes decide everything?
Not just decide, but they have demonstrated that they will tweak laws to make sure they work the way they want them to work. They have done it with obamacare, and they are now doing it with marriage.
Do we vote on anything anymore, or do we just let the guys in black robes decide everything?
It easier to manipulate and control 5 out of 9 people than millions of voters. The elites found that out when they assumed California would approve by vote the Prop 8 gay marriage referendum a few years ago. It got voted down - the elites had to cheat to get their way.
The Supreme Court was designed to be a check on the powers of the other branches of federal government. It has not been that for a long time now. What SCOTUS decides about marriage(not even their purview) applies only to DC and other federal territories, not individual states,at least as the Constitution was originally intended. Of course, nobody seems to understand that anymore, least of all the "constitutional law scholar" we have in the White House currently. So we see stupidity like this regularly. Bottom line, the federal government(any government, really) has no jurisdiction in the issue of marriage, as marriage is a covenant between two individuals and God. If you want two boys to be husband and wife, take it up with the Creator. Getting permission from SCOTUS for that is like asking the neighbor kid if you can drive dad's car. You may get permission, but it means nothing where it counts...
Maybe this ruling will help some confused Christians understand why Americanism
was condemned as a heresy by the true vicars of Christ.
