Have you ever noticed that when Jesus read in the temple from Isaiah's prophecy, He left part of it out?
Isaiah 61:1-3
Quote:
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God...
Jesus' reading in Luke 4:18-
Quote:
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.
He did not say He was sent for vengeance! Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. (Heb 9:28)

Isaiah 61:
1The spirit of the Lord God was upon me, since the Lord anointed me to bring tidings to the humble, He sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to declare freedom for the captives, and for the prisoners to free from captivity.
since the Lord anointed me: This anointing is nothing but an expression of nobility and greatness.
to declare freedom for the captives: That is to say, to bring them the tidings of the redemption.
to free from captivity: Heb. פְּקַח קוֹחַ. Open their imprisonment and their captivity and release them.
2To declare a year of acceptance for the Lord and a day of vengeance for our God, to console all mourners
a year of acceptance: A year of appeasement and good will.
3To place for the mourners of Zion, to give them glory instead of ashes, oil of joy instead of mourning, a mantle of praise instead of a feeble spirit, and they shall be called the elms of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, with which to glory.
the elms of righteousness: Heb. אֵילֵי, an expression of trees (אִילָנוֹת). Comp. (supra 1:29) “of the elms (מֵאֵילִים) that you desired.” This is evidenced by the end of the verse, “the planting of the Lord etc.”
Me thinks you emphasized the wrong part.
No, He stopped at the word "favor".
Look at the OP again - He did not mention "vengeance".

As Isaiah 61 shows, the day of vengeance precedes the acceptable year of the Lord. Jesus came to save the lost (apollumi) sheep of the house of Israel. The day of judgment had already come for them and like the prodigal son they were ready to turn from their sin. Jesus was ready to have mercy and save them.

And where do you Jesus Christ in that HEBREW scripture?...
And where do you Jesus Christ in that HEBREW scripture?...
First, all of the things stated in that scripture are true about Jesus. Second, upon reading those scriptures Jesus said "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears."
