Some of these things just come up - like being asked what we are saved from... I try to be matter of fact about it. It is what it is. I am not going to lie and make the issue seem better than what it is.
Fear is probably much less likely to work than many other approaches. That's why I responded to Denverian as I did about him being scared into "getting saved".
People are not saved through fear... they are saved through faith.
But there are churches out there who use fear to "save" people. And really, why would you do it if you didn't fear going to hell?

I understand churches use fear. It doesn't mean that it is very effective. If people chose "to be saved" through fear, what or who is their faith in? Are they simply wanting to avoid punishment?
I did not come to follow Christ from fear. God used a sermon called "Three Cheers for Christ" to speak to my soul.
If you research the gospels, people come to believe in Jesus through various ways. I don't think fear is one of those ways.
People come to Christ when Christians help others in need... or give hope through trying circumstances.
I think what God wants is unbelievers to see Him through the actions of people - which results in people turning to God by faith in Jesus Christ.

And then there is the fear of God's wrath, coupled with the thought of eternal hell.
Or, are you saying you do not believe this to be the case?
Many Christians believe they "got saved" from his eternal wrath, are you not one of them?

I got saved from His eternal wrath, but that was not my reason for believing in Christ.
