What's even creepier is the delight they seem to gain from the thought.
I think the whole heaven/hell thing serves the purpose of people believing that eventually, the score will be settled, but obviously in their favor.
In other words, SOME DAY they - the "good" people (in their definition) - will get huuuuuuuuuge reward for having suffered so much, while the "bad" people who hurt them, or who had everything the "good" person in life wanted but could never have, will get plunged straight into hell - ah, sweet revenge.
I really think this is the basis right here. For many religions that believe in reward/punishment, I'm not just talking about Christianity here.
Of course eventually a few logical people began wondering about their own failings in life or perhaps screwed up in just the way they assumed someone else who had screwed up would go to hell so that's where the whole "savior" thing came in. And they want to believe - indeed, have to believe that the "bad" people - people who somehow hurt them, or people they are incredibly jealous of - don't have this "secret knowledge," which is where the "false Christian!" finger-pointing thing comes in.
And on and on it goes, just a constant "I'm in the lead and will get a reward and anyone I don't like will definitely go to hell" apologetics scramble.
Because any other possibility is literally unbearable.
His justice. It's good, because He's just. He doesn't just ignore sin...no, he's too Holy for that. He has to punish sin...and he will.
And you can't wait.
You want sooooooooo bad to see everyone who has ever slighted you go plunging down screaming and begging into the bowels of the earth.
You'll probably ask Biblegod for a front seat and popcorn. Ooooooooooo those b*tches had it coming. Laugh at you, will they...
The very religious really need to grow up. Then again, so does religion.
All that stuff is getting more and more crumbly as people ask more and more logical, reasonable, intelligent questions rather than fearing the rack and death on a pyre.
They don't hate him because he won't save them. They hate God because they hate God.
No. This is where it all falls apart. You think that because people won't bow down to your warped ideas about God, it means they hate God. So, I repeat this on the off chance that you will comprehend it .... your views ABOUT God do not equal God. But your views about God do portray God as a contemptible character, I agree.
You've been pretty clear that you hate the idea of a God that would judge someone and send them to hell.
But enough of this stuff....it's not helping this thread to continue to go back and forth on it. We'll have to agree to disagree.
You have made it clear you have no idea who God is. You have an interpretation of the bible suited to your prejudiced beliefs you are so attached to.
