Josh 2:3-4
3 And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.
4 And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:
Josh 6:17
17 And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
James 2:25
25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
Can't help but wonder if you are referring to the behemoth in Job 40:15, an/or leviathan in Job 41:1
There is behemoth , like a hippopotamus which is a obnoxious beast of the river water which spiritually looks like the sore-but demon which makes people ill and kills the vast amount of people by infection and pain disruptor , as it is called a gland disruptor demons .............Then there is leviathan the beast which is call the king of the children of pride from Job 41:34 which is fallen angel who holds curses against the will of man were man looks down on others in pride , and cannot stop being proud ..................These are real spirits unseen by natural man but dangerous just the same , as God has the spiritual ability to remove these spirits from man if faith in God is activated by God`s rules for removing them
The book of Job mentions this sea monster at least twice. It explains how great God was because he conquered it.
What do you think happened? Was it a legend? A real event? Just part of a mythic story?
tell you what, some of those sea things look mean. So that part is real enough.
Literal bible is meaningless and too often used as a weapon. Anybody that thinks "something" beat a "sea monster" should not be allowed to lead people.

Job is the oldest book of the Bible. I don't really care about the name used in later books. The writer of Joshua might have used the name ironically, since it had been associated with an enemy of the Hebrew people. And now "Rahab" was conspiring to help them.
Adultery had also been used by the prophets to describe the so-called enemies of God (who were basically enemies of them). Like Egypt. And now in these new "feel good" stories in Genesis and Joshua everything was being turned around in favor of the Hebrew people.
"Monster of the sea" might refer to any powerful empire. Such as the "Beast" in Revelation which rose out of the sea, a reference to Rome and the organized Christian church which Rome would invent.
Isaiah speaking of Rosh Hashanah and the coming feast of Tabernacles.
The Deliverance of Israel ~ Isaiah 27 1In that day the LORD will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, With His fierce and great and mighty sword, Even Leviathan the twisted serpent; And He will kill the dragon who lives in the sea. 2In that day, "A vineyard of wine, sing of it!…
The Beast Out of the Sea ~ Revelation 13 1And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore. Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names. 2And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his power and his throne and great authority.…
These things are explaining what we are and what we must die to and overcome.
The mentioning of four beasts relate to the 4 pipes of the heart, the wine harvest is Sukkot.
