I think devoutly religious people who run for public office have every right to try to impose their religious beliefs on other people. If that's what their conscience tells them to do, then it is perfectly appropriate for them to do so.
However. That doesn't mean they have the right to succeed at it. We have constitutional mechanisms in place to prevent them from doing that, and I expect those mechanisms to be employed whenever religion tries to force its nose under the tent flap. So let them do what their hearts tell them they must, and every time they do, use the courts to stop them. That's the way our government was designed to work, and I think it's a good system.
