Used to be the priests would just mail mass cards and I'd have them stockpiled ready to use - when they were used - IE a mass for a decedent was requested - I'd send it back with a donation. I'm out of mass cards & looking online but the places I found are now charging $10 "donation" fees and upwards of that just to send a card - or calling it processing and shipping charges. I wanted to get about a dozen to have when they're needed & I already need a few but had ran out.

Am I just looking for them in the wrong places? Any places still sending them free on request? And if I have to pay to receive blank ones - then is it still expected I "donate" again when they are received?

We always grew up thinking its kind of these priests job to pray for people and the "donation" was a charitable contribution. It seems like its becoming a marketing business.

Anybody have recent experience with this?

well, it does cost real money to print and ship "mass cards" (or anything else for that matter) so would think it not just a matter of "pay to pray" but at least in part practical economics in the real world---the good priests, monks, or nuns who may do the praying may indeed join their prayers in and outside the Mass with and for you for pure love of God and neighbor BUT the guy who prints the cards and the folks who provide the lights and power to wherever they live in and pray from are probably of a slightly more mercenary mind and believe whole heartedly that "the laborer is worthy of their hire" and want to paid for their services on a regular basis by those same good priests, monks, and nuns.

that these kind material/monetary things may appear to be effecting spiritual things may be frustrating but it really should not be surprising.

good luck in your search.

in the peace of Christ.
