On another thread SumTingy mentioned that God wrote the law on our hearts. I asked him what God had written on his heart but I don't think he saw my post or maybe it's supposed to be a secret. Is it supposed to be a secret? It would be nice to get a wide range of answers though and see if there is any consensus.

You may have earned SumThingy's respect by putting you on ignore. I know I managed that feat quite early in our "relationship."

I'd be interested in his answer too. I haven't had a really good belly laugh in a while.

If there's a god worthy of a capital "G," the only thing it writes on our hearts is to be good friends to each other and good stewards of the Earth/Universe.

We were given Earth.

We have to earn the Universe.

That's why I was interested in his answer. He sees the world so much differently than I and I wanted to see if what was written on his heart was different than mine.

Well actually, this thing about God writing on the heart refers to the future when in the Millennial kingdom God will write His law on the hearts of all men, or at least on all Israelites. See Jeremiah 31:31-34.
Jeremiah 31:31 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32] not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the LORD. 33] For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34] And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

This is why the writer of Hebrews says in Hebrews 8:10-12
Hebrews 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 11] And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. 12] For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
But some people take this out of context and claim that God has written everything you need to know about Him on your heart and you don't need the ''words written in ink'' and don't need to be taught by man.

Of course this ignores the fact that in Hebrews 5:12-14 the writer of Hebrews tells his audience that by now they should have been teachers, but instead, they themselves are in need of being taught again the elementary principles of the oracles of God. And it ignores the fact that Ephesians chapter 4 speaks of the spiritual gifts of pastor and teacher, among other gifts for the building up of the body of Christ.

People are constantly taking things out of context.

I wonder if any surgeons who have done heart transplants have written their initials on the transplanted heart.

OK thanks. Boy that SumTingy had me going. I thought it was God at the time but now I'm an atheist anyway. I thought I understood what SumTingy meant by that but maybe not.

Well, now Mike has you going. He apparently didn't read verses 6ff of his Hebrews citation:
6Now, however, Jesus has received a far superior ministry, just as the covenant He mediates is superior and is founded on better promises. 7For if that first covenant had been without fault, no place would have been sought for a second. 8But when God found fault with the people, He said:
“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah....

This is what is in effect now.
