Mainstream Christians (aka Christendom which is mostly Christian in name only ) teaches church traditions or church customs outside of Scripture as being Scripture.
When King James translated the word Gehenna into English as hell fire that put the flames in biblical hell.
Gehenna was just a garbage pit outside of Jerusalem where things were destroyed.
Thus, Gehenna is a fitting word for: destruction.
Destruction for the wicked as taught at Psalm 92:7; Psalm 104:35; 2nd Peter 3:9 'perish' ( aka be destroyed )
Biblical hell is simply mankind's temporary stone-cold grave for the 'sleeping dead' as Scriptures teaches:
- John 11:11-14; Psalm 6:5; Psalm 13:3; Psalm 115:17; Isaiah 38:18; Ecclesiastes 9:5
Biblical hell aka grave comes to a final end. Emptied-out hell is cast vacant into that symbolic ' second death ' for vacated biblical hell/grave - Rev. 20:13-14.
