Your oppositional posts do not convey that you are a Christian. I call it like I see it. The Holy Spirit isn't needed to see something so obvious.
So you believe one needs to live the teachings. Godliness, holiness, righteousness. Interesting, that is the first post of yours that speaks of such things.

The Kingdom of heaven is at hand, it is also within us. No need to die to get there, it is right here. Eternal life has no death in it.

If you keep my sayings, Ye shall never see Death. Believe thou this.- Jesus

godspeed,

freedom

Dang it ... hijacking again. Sorry.

Man guys, maybe you both should go back and study the two books of Corinthians, especially the chapters and verses on love. Don't become "tinkling brass" guys. Take it from this ex-atheist who had been guilty of calling Christians 'Jesus Freaks!' It's not about contention and debates. It is all about love!! Don't become this verse: "And the love of many will wax cold..."

Love you guys, and I ask our Father to bless and keep you in His loving care and perfect peace. And, don't forget to "Look up!" Our joy, our Redeemer, our peace, our hope, our friend, is near!!!! Cause for celebration, not contention!!!!!

Whew....such animosity in this thread today. I assume you were not speaking of me, since what I say is with love albeit sternness and assuredness. I have so many posters blocked that I wasn't quite sure who you were speaking to.

The rest we can only hope that we have correct and should be open to others opinions or thoughts. There is a fine line between being absolutely sure that what understanding you have taken away from the Bible is from being led by the spirit or leaning upon your own understanding. People do find that later on down the road the spirit actually does lead them and what they originally thought was completely wrong. But there are some basic principles of Christianity that will always be non-negotiable. That's why Christians irritate unbelievers so badly, I think. But that' what Christianity is.....an unshakable belief and complete knowledge of God's existance.
I think this is the first post from you I've read that has not come across as self-righteous and elitist. It may not have ever been your intent to come across that way, but just so you know ... that is how I perceived you. Many others may have as well.

When it comes to interpersonal relations, your intent means nothing, others' perceptions mean everything.

Why is it that if I question everything ... especially dogmatic rhetoric, that I cannot be a true Christian who has surrendured my life and my fate to Christ? Are we not instructed to "test all things and hold fast to that which is true?"

Is it so offensive to insist that the books of the new testament were not written "to us", but have been preserved "for us' and that understanding should guide our interpretation?

I question that everything written in the Bible is meant for us, to be be interpreted by us through a cloudy lens... in relation to life in the 21st century. The new testament letters were written to new testament people.

Thanks... appreciate the kind words. I don't mean fights in a mean way. These kinds of fights are good natured fun for me. I love questioning and asking why. There is no animosity, hostility, or ill will.

Besides, I would take temporary contentiousness over eternal bitterness any day.

Well this piece of cracked pot-tery (just a little comic relief guys) does better to ask Him the hard and deep questions. His response was how I went from a Saul (-ette) to a Paul (-ette). Usually His answer usually will come in the way of someone or something being said or mentioned or read twice. Weird, but true. At least for this child. But please let me remind you to, "Pray for one another." "Prefer one another." These debates can easily be "hijacked" by the author of devisiveness himself!! Shake hands, and remember these soothing, edifying words: "Whatsoever things are good, and whatsoever things are lovely..." You should know the rest guys. Sweet dreams!!

Because you come across as being an atheist.....that's not speaking much to your supposed Christianity. And you still didn't answer my first question. At least people know exactly where I stand whether they agree with me or not. You're not questioning the universe and all it's "infinite questions"....you are questioning God's Word. That is not a Christian attribute.

OUCH DOTL!! What Bible are you reading? I see questions everywhere including from Jesus, God's Only Begotten One remember this one? "My GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME?" There are so many questions by so many true believers in the Bible it would fill up this entire forum to list them all!! You lost me on that one-I guess I should have gone to bed like I intended. Yikes! Check out the Book of Job and David's Psalms!!

Okay need some clarification here after re-reading your posts: is he (FFA) questioning whether the Bible is the inspired word of God, or just questioning God in general? Big difference, and should be distinguished especially for those of us just joining this thread.

P.S. II Timothy 3:16- "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness..." And, Galatians 5:14-26!!!!!!!! Both of you brothers please read!!!!!!!! BTW, I'm on the Lord's side - BIG HAPPY GRIN!! Still loving you both (and I really mean that!!!!!)

P.P.S. If you need a little comic relief, check out Youtube and type in "Mr. Bean goes to church." You'll roll in the floor from laughter!! My Pastor loved it (not offensive).
