If that is truly your desire, you really should get to know Him first. Jesus revealed God's True Nature and Holy Spirit of agape love and forgiveness on the Cross despite horrendous scourging and crucifixion. He smote no one and forgave even His torturers and murderers.

Try to get in touch with His true nature instead of our ancestors' primitive and savage beliefs about Him as a wrathful God. If you do not, you are wasting your time and effort trying to serve Him.
