It's not vanity and hubris. It's childlike trust in the promises of God.

To accept God's will unreservedly is the humblest thing we can do. God's act of preserving certain men from error, thereby endowing them with "infallibility" under certain conditions, heaps a grave responsibility upon those men. To neglect his responsibility by ignoring or denying the advantages bestowed upon him by Divine Goodness would be an example of obstinate pride and ingratitude - and false humiliation.

True humility is recognizing the height and greatness of what we are called to.
