Peace and safety (woman, believe, scriptures, Christ)

I was listening to the news on the fighting at the Gaza Strip, and thinking of all the 'end times' prophecies on these threads.

It brought the following scriptures to mind:

1 Thess. 5
1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.
2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
3 For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.

Have we, as a world, ever said "peace and safety" ?

I have seen and heard of wars, and rumors of wars ever since my childhood. I was a child in grade school during World War Two.

I do not recall a time when there was not wars between the Israelites and the Arabs. The Gaza Strip conflicts are not a new thing....

If you look at the history of the world, you will not find a time when war wasn't either on the horizon somewhere or being fought somewhere.

There are some Christians who believe that this passage of scripture is referring to the seven year peace treaty that will be brokered between Israel and her enemies...after which citizens of those countries (and one could assume the rest of the world) would admittedly breath a sigh of relief and say...ah, finally we have peace and safety.
