I want to ask a question to those of you, who have been Christians for a number of years, over ten years, and have been attending church on a fairly regular basis.
Have you ever had racial issues brought up during a church service?
I haven't seen that, other than in a very generic, "feel-good" way, like "we're all brothers and sisters," etc.
I'm white, and being that I live in a rural area, the churches where I have gone have been mainly white, with a few black people.
But even in these churches, race wasn't brought up, except as I described above.
So I'm wondering if my experience is the norm?
I haven't. I attend mainstream protestant churches in the South. We have colleges and universities here, FWIW.
Race ? was ? a topic in African-American churches and perhaps still is. I would imagine that in the Hispanic community and other ethnic communities that race comes up at times.
I don't go to church anymore but the last one I went to had a lot of different races. Lots of white and black plus Philipino's, Chinese, Korean, and lots of Spanish. They even had a Spanish ministry with services on Saturday. That is the 1 good thing I remember about that church. Race was never an issue.
try this on for size. i visited a man who showed me the love of christ when i sorely needed to see it in action. he is the Bishop and founder of a huge free will baptist congregation in newark and has branches all over the east coast. he is black. i am white. i stayed with him sat night. i went to church sat night during a special session. the chior was awesome. he called me up to give the church a word. they call me the "pilot". my testimony is one of newness in Christ and of rebirth. my heart was filled with joy. it didn't matter. what i love about the black church is the emotion and passion shown for Jesus. what amuses me about the white protestant church is the restraint and the lack of passion for jesus in hymms, prayers, and overal ritual composition.
not condeming at all but making a comparison... did this address your question?

It did - probably not in the way you intended, though.
You've apparently never been to an Apostolic, Pentacostal, Assembly of God, or non-demoninational church, where the spirit of God has full reign, and love for the Lord is quite evident...and yes, they were mainly white, though all were welcome.

To a point. I attend a mostly white church, as well. It's not like we don't welcome people unlike us, but that's just the way it is.
I don't know that church is the place to discuss civil rights issues, necessarily. I think the root cause of racial issues is sin--if a church is preaching on the sin issue the race issues will fall into line.
Are you gonna sit there and say that as a black man you or someone you've known has never walked into a "white" church and not felt eyes?
Really?
Why don't we do this.. take "church" out of it since many people have said time and again that "church" is not a building right?
So for everyone.. How often do you associate with people of different races?
This is the age old question "how many _______ friends do you have"
How many people from other races do you have over for dinner.. spend time on the weekend with..
game night? movies? Go out to dinner with? (all outside of a church building)
be honest..
for me personally.. just me (not LT as she is much more of a social butterfly than I am)..
maybe 1-2
painfully low in number.
Ummm...What does anything Fundementalist said have to do with what you are saying?
