Should a woman's head be covered when praying or in church?
As I've took time for a more thorough read...this question comes to me. From what I've read, it seems essential. But I haven't read it all this indepth, so maybe there is more on it than what I've read?
I'd like scripture to support answers please.
I don't currently go to church with my hair covered...but I know some do.

I know there's also much more to know...such as who was being spoken to, etc. Maybe someone could fill me in?
I just heard someone speak on this passage, actually. It appears to be a cultural thing for that particular area of the world, at the time. On one hand, women in the city of Corinth did go about their business daily w/out head coverings...but when it comes to worship they covered their heads. It was a way of submitting to God, and to their husbands.
For a woman to be w/out a head covering while worshiping was as shameful as if she had gotten her head shaved because of prostitution.
The basic premise that I've heard is that a woman should look like a woman and a man like a man--that's why men are to have their heads uncovered, women's heads covered.

Well, I don't think there's any mistaking me for a man...lol...just kidding.
Just a little dry humor
Thanks for your input...I'm wondering why I never really realized these verses and their meaning till now. It's not like the bible is new to me.

I think its all about timing..... and when I say timing I mean G-ds. Perhaps He has a special reason for your not seeing this verse/s in this light til now. Whatever it may be or the reasoning ..... May G-d lead you into His understanding.

Thanks psalm for your kind words. They are appreciated.
Hi Sherry, vs. 15 says that a woman's long hair is given to her for a covering, so I believe that this is the natural state of things and that this is sufficient for covering. I think that women were shaving their heads as men did in that culture (but I may be wrong), so maybe this is what Paul was speaking to? There is to be a distinction between men and women. God bless.

Thanks Shana,
I had forgotten about that verse.
That is why originally I had thought it was okay to have no covering...
I truely believe this is one of those cases that we should do what is in our own heart...
for it also says to judge for ourselves...either right before or after that verse.
I might be wrong...but I'd say if you attended a church in which the majority of women had their covered, then you should also....as this is putting thoughts into other's heads that you are disgracing God...but, in my case, I think I'm fine.
Thanks everyone for helping me sort out one of those issues that I seem to have most each time I REALLY start studying...
I think we are still constantly learning...regardless of how much we have read.
