Would like to hear your opinions...What do you think? Is it a sin to play the lottery? I'm asking because a game by the name of PowerBall is playing here in Florida tonight and the people are "going crazy"! Went into a local Circle-K to get some gas and was wondering, (out loud) "Why is the line practically through the door"? When this lady turned to me and said, "It the PowerBall, it's $222 million dollars tonight"! WOW!! I mean, who could not use $222 million dollars right about now!
Is it a sin to play the lotto? I don't normally play, always thought the machines were rigged. By the way, they have this slogan here in FL that states: $19 billion dollars to Education! I can't tell by looking at the condition of some of these school and the grades they have, really!
So what do you think? Waste of time? It's sinful? Worth a shot? ..........
If some one won $222 million i would be happy for them.
So what do you think? Waste of time? It's sinful? Worth a shot? ,i will leave that answer to those who live by the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
I don't believe gambling is a sin in of itself but there are verses that point out that it is not a wise decision for Christians to be partaking for instance it exploits the poor another is it is telling God....."God I really am scared and don't know if you will provide for me like scripture says so I will take it upon myself to care for my family and I through sheer blind random chance"

It's like anything else........ok when done in moderation. I see nothing wrong with jumping on the bandwagon when the pot is that high. God knows exactly what I would do with that money. It's not like going to "sin city" and blowing your life savings on gambling. It is an education lottery and it does do SOME good, but not nearly enough.
With that said, I do believe that going to casinos and putting yourself in the center of a sin-filled arena is wrong. Spending your entire paycheck on gambling and neglecting your family is wrong. It becomes your god, and we all know what God has to say about that.
I haven't played in at least 3 years...and it isn't because I think it is a sin for me to do so...it's because I live on a very low, limited income, and sometimes I run out of money before I do month...(there's a song about that isn't there......) Since December of 2008, I have been an activist against a developer who came into our city under the radar, and came with a permit to develop a Horsetrack-Casino in our 25mileX25mile bedroom/family community...he tried...BUT I, along with about 20 other like-minded neighbors, got together...and with the help of the Dog Track in neighboring city Daytona Beach, we were able to fight a 4 month long fight...and we won!!! He (the developer) had to go to another poor, vulnerable city to try his wickedness...!!! The studying I did in order for me to give a good argument in front of our City Council afforded me the opportunity to discover how the mafia is STILL intertwined in this as much as ever!!!<<FACT!!!...and the crime that comes with it is just unreal!!! So, it isn't the man or woman that plays lotto once in a while...or the VFW playing their penny or quarter card games...or the Ladies gathering at the Community Buildings to play Bingo together...it's the hard core stuff I am against...that destroys lives...and surrounding communities.
I don't play it but I do encourage people to do it. The national lottery over here gives grants between £300-£10000 to sport clubs everywhere in the UK and that money really goes a long way.
I am more of a dollar or two scratch off person We went to Las Vegas a few years ago on a convention..While my h was dutifully attending meetings I hung out with the "one-armed bandit" Had a ball..Won 65 dollars...Boy, I am a big gambler
Ok, ours is only at $170m, but I went ahead and bought five tickets. One can dream.
Ok, the ticket says 170, but the website says 222. I guess I'll just win the 222.
