It's a December night, and wherever in the world one may live, it is still "December." We, here in the States, equate December with "WINTER" along with a few other things: Christmas, New Years, Hanukkah/Chanukah (yes, June knows it's the "Christianity subforum" but she always felt drawn to those candles and festivals of light...) ~Along with Christmas trees, Nativity scenes, holiday festivities, "Holiday Office Parties" towards which some grin, or bear, or rebel or ignore) along with other, less dramatic indications of the advent of Winter...The first snowfall of the season; frozen ponds upon which the not-as-yet indoctrinated skaters slip and fall; the "Snow Days" when school is called off and mothers tear their hair out; the cacophony of snow blowers, shovels, and the revelling of snowball fights or the making of snow men.
The images of "Winter" and the thoughts that they bring to our minds are as varied as the age in which we grew up in, along with the memories that we hold and carry within us from our past. ~The Salvation Army Santa who nightly rings his bell outside our local grocery store has the capacity to conger up both the generosity of those who cast their spare change into his pot as much as it holds those memories which serve as a haunting reminder in those who had nothing to spare and nothing to give. --Thereby nothing was necessary to hold or contain that which was not to be cast or given. -And subsequently, nothing was had.
~~June simply wanted to post some music. It doesn't hurt, and hopefully does not offend. Music is arbitrary and neutral, but the power it holds enables the imagination to live, sometimes to thrive, and when necessary, to even survive. As June was about click on "submit thread" she happened to turn on the outside lights for when "little June" who is expected home later tonight, as its dark out. In briefly gazing out the window: snow.
The first of the season, which she had not noticed until now.
~How very "coincidental."
For those who wish to join in, or not, music that is about, or reminds us of....
Hi Junie! I'll start, I'll start!! This song always reminds me of winter for some reason.....don't know why. It's kind of a depressing sort of song and I have no idea why I thought of it but here it is:
I woke yesterday to a beautiful winter wonderland and the snow was coming down steady..Still I grabbed my old fleece jacket, a cup of coffee and headed to the back deck as is my usual morning routine most days..
and how funny, I watched the video before reading your post (oops ya caught me, sometimes I skip to videos before reading the post) and as I was listening to the music I was thinking about how we had our first snow today (lots of snow!) and earlier in the day I had thought about your story about your dad making you a snow cave. I was thinking about that feeling of being in a snow cave. So, I was thinking about that again while I was listening to the music, then it ended and I read your post about you also getting your first snow. hee!! Thanks for the nice thoughts that you had inadvertently put in my head earlier today, (the snow cave story.) Peace to ya friend!

Or Bach or Haydn for actual Christmastime, but I like the mental silence this song stirs (a contradiction, I know).
Scottish pop bands almost all have a shimmery/hazy sound to their instrumentals. Simple Minds, Cocteau Twins, even Snow Patrol. I really think it's a reflection of the weather. The guitar here always reminded me of brittle, translucent ice.
