Oftentimes much of the focus is on the religious councils of the Christian era. There were of course infightings, civil wars, book burnings, religious leaders being exiled, groups being banished and murders in establishing the orthodoxy. What is just as intriguing a story is the story of how Yahweh, the desert god of the ancient nomadic Israelites, rose from obscurity to triumph over his chief rival, Baal, the local god of the Canaanite nations.
I know we have some very intelligent people on this particular forum. In your words, how did this go down? Can you use hints from the Bible to support the view?
While I don't put much stock in the Old Testament as a source of all truth, it is a product of its time and does provide some insights into the historical side of this fierce battle that helped to produce the three great monotheistic religions.
