Is Cincinnati sort of an 'artsy' city? I ask because "Play Me I'm Yours" was down in NYC in June and I heard that the project was supposed to be making a stop in Cincinnati in August.

I also know heard there is a pretty good performing arts school located in Cincinnati. There must be a fairly large arts crowd there if you guys were able to attract "Play Me I'm Yours" and plus with the museums and arts school.

I also wanted to know if Cincinnati is as conservative as people say. I know usually arts and conservatism do not mix well, so I just wanted to know you guys' opinions (mainly from transplants).

The city is liberal, the first few rings are fairly liberal, but the out-skirts tend to lean more conservatively.

Btw, are you referring to political conservativeness?

Both politically and socially. I'm just wondering since I have heard that Cincinnati is VERY conservative, both fiscally and socially.

And when you say 'rings,' are you talking about the suburbs?

Yes, Cincinnati is an artsy city, but by no means is it limited to just the city itself. There are galleries, studios, and arts centers - as well as many instances of public art - throughout the suburban areas as well. It's just the the more "liberal" arts scene is centered primarily in the city itself.

Politically and socially, Cincinnati is probably more left-leaning depending on what part of the city you're in. The west side has historically been more conservative than the east. The "rings", as Cincy-Rise puts it, are indeed the suburbs...the farther out from the city core you get, the more conservative you find the political scene. But I'm not inclined to believe the same applies socially, as there are many socially liberal people that live in the suburban areas...again, depending on where you are. For instance, the northern outer ring of suburbs...ie. West Chester, Mason, etc....are politically conservative. But there are many socially liberal people out in those areas as well. Oxford, though not really a "suburb", is probably one of the most liberal places in the region.

i think it is fair to call cincinnati an artsy city. it is also fair to call it a conservative city. within the city itself, we have several seriously artsy neighborhoods; over-the-rhine, pendleton, northside, and lower clifton (university heights / fairview) all come to mind

by the way, i had the chance to play the piano at rookwood the other day. i am a closet pianist so playing where others could hear me was nuts. i was very nervous and forgot many songs that i thought i knew! i could only manage to remember fur elise and a bit of a bach's march in d major.

In my opinion, an attitude of conservatism permeates just about every aspect of life in this area. With a metro area of 2 million people, you'll find a lot of variation and variety, but in terms of the broadest generalizations, there it is.

Cincinnati has a long-standing tradition of excellence in the musical and performing arts, which is reflected in it symphony orchestra, a highly-regarded public high school, and the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music. People may quibble about CCM's exact ranking within the US at large, but it would easily fall in the top 20, maybe higher.

^ Great post!

LiveFreeorDie-NH, the line that separates Republicans and Democrats is becoming more and more transparent. Both are ruled by Corporate influences that decide which agenda should be pushed and which one shouldn't.
