jjackucyk - you're right on the money. great post. regarding architecture, it is a defining force for me. give me a few blighted italiante neighbors over a new mcmansion any day. but generally, people in cincinnati do not care about architecture. that is why we bulldoze italianates to put in press-board townhomes and call it progress. parks are great. the only shopping i get excited about is for antiques. schools are another topic.

It's almost unfair to say the East Side is better since that side of town stretches out basically twice as far in terms of housing in development then the West Side.

The problem with the west side is that you have to drive to work with the sun in your eyes and drive home with the sun in your eyes. Other than that, its all aces.

But for real, my question still isn't answered.

Default some guesses

Some guesses, from someone who grew up in Bridgetown and now lives in Sayler Park:
1. With the exception of Monsanto/Bayer/Ineos in Addyston and some small factories in Harrison, Cleves and Colerain, no major industry
2. More blue collar, more lower to mid middle class
3. More Catholic
4. More hills
5. Fewer straight thoroughfares
6. Mostly small business and/or franchises
7. Only two quasi-major malls
8. Yes, there's an abundance of the little family-owned bars and small restaurants that many of you discuss, but I've been in a number of them and have never been impressed. They're dark and cramped and the food isn't anything special.
9. I've never had a problem with any of the above--it just "is." The one thing I've never liked about living over here is the emphasis on sports as entertainment. I don't mean just major league, I mean the local teams starting in grade school, which have never interested me. I prefer more artsy stuff, even if it's movies. The local live theater has greatly improved in the past 15 years, but that's all that I know about culture-wise.

I am completely ignoring any and all politics with my list here.
