And who cares about horses when ya got LOTS of cool USAF airplanes in a nice museum to look at!

Eh, Cleveland and Akron are even closer together than that and there is still a considered separation between the two cities even though they are much more closely aligned than Cincy and Dayton. Akron is proportionally smaller than Dayton and there is still resistance by them as being considered part of the Greater Cleveland Metroplex (even though they share the sports teams and the TV/radio broadcasts).

You guys seem so much more connected too. A great national park between Akron and Cleveland, you have somewhat of a rail system linking the two. Akron's northern suburbs pretty much meet up with Cleveland's southern burbs. But like you said, the distance is almost half that between Daytonnati

Hmm less connected than Daytona and Orlando which is now one CSA? CSA=consolidated statistical area which would be the designation of Cincinnati and Dayton.

Right now the only thing that will keep it apart is local leaders which you need a 15% commute exchange rate going between the two metro's. A CSA is automatically included with an commuter exchange rate of 25%. I don't think i see that happening for a while to be automatically included, However the two metro's are near the 15% threshold if not there already.

With the declining economy of Dayton i doubt the local leader there would decline the merger.

As far as i can see it. The only way the two will become on MSA is if it's forms one urbanized area. I think they are about 250,000 people short between the two before that can happen.

As of right now A CSA merger would be about 3.3-3.4 million people. There is other counties not counted that are close to being added to the Cincinnati MSA that would add 100k to the MSA of Cincinnati and also Richmond,Ind could be added to Dayton's CSA. That would add about 80k to the Dayton CSA.

So the potential is there for a 3.5 million CSA.

You can throw all numbers out the door when gas reaches $5+ a gallon. Then again i would expect people to move closer to the MSA.when that does happen.

What about adding Springfield? When you add them to the Dayton metro area there are over 1 million residents.

Springfield is it's own MSA. They used to be the same MSA a decade ago. Or was it CMSA. I forget the designation

So if Dayton/Cincinnati became one CSA, Springfield would attomatically be included. That's what I was wondering. All the CSA, MSA's, etc can get confusing depending on what cities you're including and such.

Seems like the name will be Cincinnati-Dayton-Springfield CSA. I think Springfield is larger than Hamilton or Middletown.
