I'm an experienced RN who will be moving to Cincy in a few months and I need to know how much of a problem am I going to have in getting a job? I have 24 years working experience - mostly in Med-Surg. Is there a "nursing shortage" in Cincinnati? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Since you said "any" replies:

I don't have any professional knowledge about this at all. But my impression is that you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a job. University Hospital is widely regarded as a substandard place to work. Children's Hospital is huge and has to my understanding a fine reputation even nationally. And Mercy Health Partners would definitely be one of the largest single employers in your field. Mercy Health Partners is a fine organization but most of their associated hospitals are out in the suburbs. Since I believe you are looking forward to living at the Banks, the commute will exceed your desires.

Pill Hill is in the area near University Cincinnati and at one time the majority of hospitals, clinics, doctors offices, etc. were concentrated there. It has fewer hospitals than years past, but still several. Cincinnati Children's is widely known. Good Samaritan is the largest private hospital in Cincinnati, part of TriHealth, and recently went through a very large rennovation program. Christ hospital is well known for its adult care. University Hospital is the teaching and training facility for the University. Deaconess specializes in elderly care.

And don't forget St Elizabeth and St Luke hospitals across the river in NKY. They may actually be the closest commute of all for you.

Default dch

This is a little out of your way, but Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg is always looking to hire nurses. (It's where I work, although I'm not a nurse.)

Tell me about Regency Hospital - does it provide all specialties of care, or strictly Rehabilitative? Thanks.

From what I can find, Regency Hospital is an Acute long-term care facility. The parent organization is Regency Hospital Company operated by Select Medical Corporation out of Pennsylvania. Consulting the American Hospital Association, virtually no information is available on staffing, etc. other than it has 15 beds. It is located in the general area of Deaconess near UC.

Looks like it's actually located WITHIN Deaconess Hospital. Maybe a subcontracted facility?

You are right. Obviously a direct connection. I do know Deaconess has been having money flow problems for several years. So maybe this is a way to reduce their own obligations while still keeping the facility afloat?

A number of hospitals outsource specialty units (like psychiatric, alcohol rehab, etc.).

Agree with you regarding Deaconess. The hospital has been up for reorganization recently.

I'm not a nurse, but my wife is a nursing student at UC. She's mentioned that Cincinnati is "super saturated" with nurses do to the abundance of schools offering nursing programs here. So, while there's a nationwide shortage, it might be tougher to land a job around here. Of course, this is all hearsay on my part.
